Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न हि एषा बुद्धिः आस्थेया हनूमन् अंगदम् प्रति ।
पिता हि बंधुः पुत्रस्य न माता हरि सत्तम ॥ ॥४-२१-१५॥
na hi eṣā buddhiḥ āstheyā hanūman aṃgadam prati । pitā hi baṃdhuḥ putrasya na mātā hari sattama ॥ ॥4-21-15॥
Translation
O best of monkeys, Hanuman! You should not harbor this notion regarding Angada (that I am his ruler). For a son, the father is the true bond (protector/authority), not the mother.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वानरश्रेष्ठ हनुमान! तुम्हें अंगद के प्रति यह बुद्धि (कि मैं उसे राजा बनाऊँगी) नहीं रखनी चाहिए। क्योंकि पुत्र का (वास्तविक) बंधु (रक्षक/अधिकारी) पिता होता है, माता नहीं।
English Commentary
This verse illuminates the social structure of the time. Tara’s statement pita hi bandhuh implies that social and political identity is patrilineal. Without the father, the authority passes to the father's kin (the uncle), not the mother. Tara argues that while a mother provides affection, the bandhu (the one who binds, protects, and gives status) is the father. She humbly accepts her limitations and dismisses Hanuman’s regency plan as impractical under their laws.

यह श्लोक तत्कालीन सामाजिक संरचना पर प्रकाश डालता है। तारा का कथन 'पिता हि बंधुः' का अर्थ है कि सामाजिक और राजनीतिक पहचान पिता से मिलती है। पिता के न रहने पर यह अधिकार पिता के कुल (चाचा) के पास जाता है। तारा मानती हैं कि माता स्नेह दे सकती है, लेकिन 'बंधु' (जो बांधता है और रक्षण करता है) पिता ही है। वह अपनी सीमाओं को स्वीकार करते हुए हनुमान की योजना को अव्यावहारिक बताती हैं।
