Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
जानासि अनियताम् एवम् भूतानाम् आगतिम् गतिम् ।
तस्मात् शुभम् हि कर्तव्यम् पण्डितेन इह लौकिकम् ॥ ॥४-२१-५॥
jānāsi aniyatām evam bhūtānām āgatim gatim । tasmāt śubham hi kartavyam paṇḍitena iha laukikam ॥ ॥4-21-5॥
Translation
You know that the coming (birth) and going (death) of beings is uncertain. Therefore, a wise person should perform only those worldly duties here that are auspicious and proper.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम प्राणियों के जन्म (आगति) और मरण (गति) की अनिश्चितता को जानती हो। इसलिए, विद्वान व्यक्ति को इस लोक में वही करना चाहिए जो शुभ (उचित/कल्याणकारी) हो।
English Commentary
Hanuman appeals to Tara’s intellect, acknowledging "You know" (janasi). He isn't teaching her new things but awakening her dormant wisdom. Agatim gatim refers to the cycle of birth and death. Since we cannot control mortality, we must focus on what is within our control: our actions. Here, laukikam (worldly duties) refers to funeral rites and statecraft. Excessive grieving is futile; performing the auspicious and proper duties is the only way to ensure peace for the departed soul and stability for the living.

हनुमान जी तारा की बुद्धिमत्ता की प्रशंसा करते हुए कहते हैं 'जानासि' (तुम जानती हो)। वे उसे उपदेश नहीं दे रहे, बल्कि उसके ही ज्ञान को जागृत कर रहे हैं। 'आगतिम् गतिम्' का अर्थ है आना और जाना। चूंकि जीवन-मृत्यु हमारे वश में नहीं है, इसलिए हमारे हाथ में केवल 'कर्म' है। यहाँ 'लौकिकम्' कर्म का अर्थ है अंतिम संस्कार और राज्य की व्यवस्था। रोना-धोना निरर्थक है; उचित वैदिक कर्मकांड और कर्तव्य पालन ही 'शुभ' है जिससे दिवंगत आत्मा को शांति और जीवितों को सुरक्षा मिलती है।
