वीक्षमाणः तु मंदासुः सर्वतो मंदम् उच्छ्वसन् ।
आदौ एव तु सुग्रीवम् ददर्श अनुजम् अग्रतः ॥ ॥४-२२-१॥
vīkṣamāṇaḥ tu maṃdāsuḥ sarvato maṃdam ucchvasan । ādau eva tu sugrīvam dadarśa anujam agrataḥ ॥ ॥4-22-1॥
Translation
Then, Vali, whose life force was ebbing away and who was breathing slowly, looked around and first of all saw his younger brother Sugriva standing before him.

(तभी) मंद प्राणों वाले और धीरे-धीरे श्वास लेते हुए वाली ने चारों ओर देखा और सबसे पहले अपने छोटे भाई सुग्रीव को सामने खड़ा देखा।
English Commentary
The scene shifts here (start of Sarga 22). Vali is in his final moments (mandasuh - waning life). On the deathbed, anger often subsides, and the clouds of delusion clear. Vali sees Sugriva first. This gaze is no longer one of enmity but of brotherhood. After a lifetime of conflict, in the end, it is the brother who stands before the brother. This visual contact signals the beginning of repentance and reconciliation.

यहाँ से दृश्य बदलता है (सर्ग २२ का प्रारंभ)। वाली अंतिम सांसें ले रहे हैं ('मंदासुः')। मृत्युशैया पर पड़े व्यक्ति का क्रोध प्रायः शांत हो जाता है और मोह-माया के बादल छंटने लगते हैं। वाली ने 'सबसे पहले' सुग्रीव को देखा। यह दृष्टि अब शत्रुता की नहीं, बल्कि भ्रातृत्व की है। जीवन भर के संघर्ष के बाद, अंत समय में भाई ही भाई के सामने खड़ा है। यह मिलन पश्चाताप और सुलह का संकेत है।
