Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ना अस्य अमित्रैः गतम् गच्छेः मा शत्रुभिः अरिंदम ।
भर्तुः अर्थ परो दान्तः सुग्रीव वशगो भव ॥ ॥४-२२-२२॥
Nā asya amitraiḥ gatam gaccheḥ mā śatrubhiḥ arindama । Bhartuḥ artha paro dāntaḥ sugrīva vaśago bhava ॥ ॥4-22-22॥
Translation
Do not associate with his (Sugriva's) enemies, nor with your own foes, O subduer of enemies. Intent on your master's welfare and self-controlled, remain obedient to Sugriva.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे अरिन्दम (शत्रुओं का दमन करने वाले)! तुम सुग्रीव के शत्रुओं के साथ मेल-जोल मत रखना और न ही अपने शत्रुओं का साथ देना। अपने स्वामी (सुग्रीव) के हित में तत्पर और जितेन्द्रिय होकर सुग्रीव के अधीन रहना।
English Commentary
This is explicit counsel on loyalty and avoiding treason. Wali forbids Angada from associating with anyone who opposes Sugriva ("amitraiḥ"), as this would instantly invite suspicion and likely execution. He calls Angada "Arindama" (subduer of enemies) to remind him of his warrior nature, but directs that energy into service. He must be "Dantah" (self-controlled) and "Bhartuh artha paro" (devoted to the welfare of the master/sustainer). Wali emphasizes that total, visible allegiance to Sugriva is the only way to secure his position. He must not give Sugriva any reason to doubt his intentions.
हिंदी टीका
यहाँ बालि राजनीति (Statecraft) की शिक्षा दे रहे हैं। किसी भी नए राजा को सबसे अधिक भय पूर्व राजा के परिवार के विद्रोह से होता है। इसलिए बालि अंगद को चेतावनी देते हैं कि वह सुग्रीव के शत्रुओं ('अमित्रैः') से कोई संपर्क न रखे, अन्यथा उस पर राजद्रोह का संदेह होगा। 'दान्तः' (जिसने अपनी इंद्रियों/मन को वश में कर लिया हो) बनकर उसे अपने स्वामी ('भर्तुः') सुग्रीव के हित ('अर्थ परो') के लिए कार्य करना चाहिए। बालि चाहते हैं कि अंगद अपनी वफादारी सिद्ध करे ताकि सुग्रीव उसे अपना पुत्रवत स्नेह दे सकें, न कि प्रतिद्वंद्वी समझें।
