गोलभस्य महाबाहुः दश वर्षाणि पंच च ।
न एव रात्रौ न दिवसे तत् युद्धम् उपशाम्यति ॥ ॥४-२२-२९॥
Golabhasya mahābāhuḥ daśa varṣāṇi pañca ca । Na eva rātrau na divase tat yuddham upaśāmyati ॥ ॥4-22-29॥
Translation
The mighty-armed Vali fought with Golabha for fifteen years. Neither by night nor by day did that battle ever cease or find peace.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे महाबाहु (वाली) पंद्रह वर्षों तक गोलभ (गंधर्व) के साथ युद्ध करते रहे। न रात में और न ही दिन में वह युद्ध कभी शांत होता (रुकता) था।
English Commentary
Tara recalls the immense stamina and martial prowess of her husband to highlight the tragedy of his sudden fall. She references a legendary battle against Golabha (a Gandharva), which lasted for fifteen continuous years without a break, day or night. This commentary serves to establish Vali's credentials as an invincible warrior who could endure prolonged combat. By recounting this, Tara emphasizes the shock of the current situation: a warrior who could sustain a 15-year duel has been silenced in mere moments. It juxtaposes his past endurance with his present stillness.

तारा यहाँ अपने पति के अपार शौर्य और सहनशक्ति (stamina) का स्मरण कर रही हैं। यह श्लोक वाली की शक्ति को स्थापित करने के लिए महत्वपूर्ण है। गोलभ एक गंधर्व था, जिसके साथ वाली का युद्ध निरंतर पंद्रह वर्षों तक चला था। बिना विश्राम किए, दिन-रात युद्ध करना वाली के अलौकिक बल और संकल्प को दर्शाता है। तारा यह तुलना इसलिए कर रही हैं ताकि वह राम के बाण से हुए आकस्मिक वध की विडंबना को उजागर कर सकें—कि जो योद्धा पंद्रह वर्षों तक एक गंधर्व से लड़ता रहा, वह आज एक ही प्रहार में कैसे गिर गया। यह वीर रस का एक संस्मरण है जो करुण रस को और गहरा करता है।
