ततः समुपजिघ्रंती कपि राजस्य तत् मुखम् ।
पतिम् लोकश्रुता तारा मृतम् वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥४-२३-१॥
Tataḥ samupajighrantī kapi rājasya tat mukham । Patim lokaśrutā tārā mṛtam vacanam abravīt ॥ ॥4-23-1॥
Translation
Then, smelling (kissing) the face of the Monkey King, the renowned Tara spoke these words to her dead husband.

तदनन्तर, विश्वविख्यात तारा ने वानरराज (वाली) के उस मुख को सूँघकर (चुम्बन करके), अपने मृत पति से ये वचन कहे।
English Commentary
Tara performs the act of "Samupajighranti"—smelling the head/face of her husband. In ancient Indian tradition, this is a profound gesture of intimacy and affection, often surpassing a simple kiss in emotional weight. It signifies a deep connection. Despite being "Lokashruta" (renowned for her wisdom and status), in this moment she is simply a grieving wife. The commentary notes the transition from physical collapse to verbal lamentation. She begins to address the inanimate body, bridging the gap between life and death with her grief.
