शेषे त्वम् विषमे दुःखम् अकृत्वा वचनम् मम ।
उपल उपचिते वीर सुदुःखे वसुधा तले ॥ ॥४-२३-२॥
Śeṣe tvam viṣame duḥkham akṛtvā vacanam mama । Upala upacite vīra suduḥkhe vasudhā tale ॥ ॥4-23-2॥
Translation
O Hero, having not heeded my words, you lie sleeping sorrowfully on this uneven, stone-covered, and very painful ground.

हे वीर! मेरा कहना न मानकर, आप इस ऊबड़-खाबड़, पथरीली और अत्यंत कष्टकारी धरती पर बड़े दुःख के साथ सो रहे हैं।
English Commentary
Tara addresses Vali with a mixture of grief and gentle admonition. She points out the physical reality of his deathbed: "Upala upacite" (covered in stones) and uneven ground, which is unfit for a king. She uses the verb "Sheshe" (you sleep), maintaining a semblance of life in her speech. The core of the commentary is her reminder that he ignored her counsel ("akrutva vachanam mama"). It highlights the tragic trope of the ignored prophecy or wise counsel, emphasizing that this painful end on the hard earth was preventable.

तारा का विलाप अब उलाहने (complaint) का रूप ले लेता है। वह याद दिलाती हैं कि उन्होंने वाली को युद्ध में न जाने की सलाह दी थी ("अकृत्वा वचनम् मम" - मेरा वचन न मानकर)। वह वाली की मृत्यु को 'सोने' (शेषे) के रूप में देखती हैं, लेकिन यह नींद राजसी शैया पर नहीं, बल्कि पत्थरों से भरी (उपल उपचिते) कठोर धरती पर है। यह विरोधाभास—एक राजा का पत्थरों पर सोना—दुख को बढ़ाता है। तारा का यह कथन उस पछतावे को दर्शाता है कि यदि वाली ने उनकी बात मानी होती, तो यह दुर्दशा न होती।
