अगाधे च निमग्ना अस्मि विपुले शोक सागरे ।
अश्म सारमयम् नूनम् इदम् मे हृदयम् दृढम् ॥ ॥४-२३-१०॥
Agādhe ca nimagnā asmi vipule śoka sāgare । Aśma sāramayam nūnam idam me hṛdayam dṛḍham ॥ ॥4-23-10॥
Translation
I am submerged in a vast and unfathomable ocean of grief. Surely, this hard heart of mine is made of the essence of stone (or iron).
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं एक अथाह और विशाल शोक के सागर में डूब गई हूं। निश्चय ही मेरा यह कठोर हृदय पत्थर (या लोहे) के सार से बना है (तभी तो यह फट नहीं रहा है)।
English Commentary
This verse expresses the classic tragic trope: "Why does my heart not break?" Tara feels engulfed by an "Agadha" (bottomless) ocean of sorrow. She questions her own physical resilience, concluding that her heart must be made of "Ashma sara" (essence of stone or iron) to withstand such a blow without bursting. The commentary notes that this is not a boast of strength, but a lamentation of her inability to die alongside her husband. She views her survival and the durability of her heart as a curse rather than a blessing.

शोक की चरम सीमा वह होती है जब व्यक्ति को आश्चर्य होता है कि वह अभी भी जीवित कैसे है। तारा कहती हैं कि वह दुख के सागर में डूब चुकी हैं, फिर भी उनका हृदय फट नहीं रहा। वह निष्कर्ष निकालती हैं कि उनका हृदय 'अश्म सारमयम्' (पत्थर के तत्व से बना) है। संस्कृत साहित्य में यह एक प्रचलित अलंकार है जहाँ विलाप करने वाला पात्र अपनी सहनशक्ति को कोसता है। वह जीना नहीं चाहतीं, लेकिन उनका शरीर और हृदय इस आघात को झेल रहा है, जो उनके लिए एक सजा के समान है।
