कृमि राग परिस्तोमे स्वकीये शयने यथा ।
रेणु शोणित संवीतम् गात्रम् तव समंततः ॥ ॥४-२३-१४॥
Kṛmi rāga paristome svakīye śayane yathā । Reṇu śoṇita saṃvītam gātram tava samantataḥ ॥ ॥4-23-14॥
Translation
Just as [you used to sleep] on your own bed covered with crimson sheets, so is your body now covered all over with dust and blood.

जैसे आप लाल रंग (लाख या कीड़ों से बने रंग) की चादर से ढके अपने बिस्तर पर सोते थे, वैसे ही आज आपका शरीर चारों ओर से धूल और खून से सना हुआ है।
English Commentary
Tara draws a haunting parallel between Vali's royal life and his death. She compares his current state—covered in "Renu" (dust) and "Shonita" (blood)—to his sleeping on a royal bedspread dyed in "Krimi raga" (crimson/lac dye). The imagery is visual: the red of the luxury bedding is replaced by the red of his life force. The commentary underscores the irony; he is still "clothed in red" as befits a king, but it is the grisly red of slaughter, signifying that the battlefield has become his final bedchamber.

वाल्मीकि यहाँ एक और उपमा का प्रयोग करते हैं। 'कृमि राग' का अर्थ है लाल रंग (जो विशेष कीटों/लाख से बनता था), जो राजसी बिस्तरों पर बिछाया जाता था। तारा याद करती हैं कि कैसे वाली लाल चादरों पर सोते थे। आज भी वह लाल रंग में लिपटे हैं, लेकिन यह रंग चादर का नहीं, बल्कि 'शोणित' (खून) का है, और बिस्तर मखमल का नहीं, बल्कि 'रेणु' (धूल) का है। यह समानता (Simile) राजसी विलासिता और युद्धभूमि की मृत्यु के बीच की समानता और अंतर दोनों को गहरा करती है।
