अस्रैः नयनजैः शूरम् सिषेच अस्त्र समाहतम् ।
रुधिरोक्षित सर्वान्गम् दृष्ट्वा विनिहतम् पतिम् ॥ ॥४-२३-२१॥
asraiḥ nayanajaiḥ śūram siṣeca astra samāhatam । rudhirokṣita sarvāngam dṛṣṭvā vinihatam patim ॥ ॥4-23-21॥
Translation
Seeing her husband struck by a weapon, his limbs drenched in blood and lying slain, Tara sprinkled (bathed) that hero with the tears flowing from her eyes.

अपने पति को अस्त्र से घायल, खून से लथपथ और मृतप्राय देखकर, तारा ने अपने नेत्रों से बहने वाले आंसुओं से उस शूरवीर (वाली) का अभिषेक किया।
English Commentary
This verse presents a poignant juxtaposition of the brutality of war and the tenderness of marital love. Valmiki uses the imagery of 'abhisheka' (ceremonial bathing or consecration) ironically here. Instead of the sacred waters used to anoint a king, Vali is being bathed in his wife's tears. The description of Vali as 'rudhirokṣita sarvāngam' (limbs drenched in blood) contrasts sharply with the purity implied by the act of washing him. It highlights the sudden fall of the Vanara king from a majestic ruler to a slain warrior. Tara's act of sprinkling him with tears signifies her helpless grief; she tries to cleanse the blood of battle with the waters of sorrow. It establishes the tragic tone that dominates this chapter, emphasizing the personal cost of the political conflict between the brothers.

यह श्लोक तारा के शोक की तीव्रता और उसके पतिव्रता धर्म का एक अत्यंत करुण चित्रण है। यहाँ कवि वाल्मीकि ने एक विरोधाभासी दृश्य प्रस्तुत किया है। जिस महाबली वाली का अभिषेक सुगंधित जल और मंत्रोच्चारण के साथ होना चाहिए था, आज उसका 'अभिषेक' उसकी पत्नी के गर्म आंसुओं से हो रहा है। 'रुधिरोक्षित सर्वान्गम्' (सारे अंगों का खून से सना होना) और 'अस्रैः नयनजैः' (आंखों से निकले आंसुओं) के बीच का संबंध युद्ध की क्रूरता और प्रेम की कोमलता को एक साथ दर्शाता है। तारा यहाँ केवल विलाप नहीं कर रही, बल्कि अपने आंसुओं से वाली को अंतिम अर्घ्य दे रही है। यह दृश्य पाठक के मन में करुणा (pathos) का संचार करता है, जहाँ एक वीर राजा धूल में पड़ा है और उसकी महारानी असहाय होकर रो रही है।
