अभिवादय राजानम् पितरम् पुत्र मानदम् ।
एवम् उक्तः समुत्थाय जग्राह चरणौ पितुः ॥ ॥४-२३-२४॥
abhivādaya rājānam pitaram putra mānadam । evam uktaḥ samutthāya jagrāha caraṇau pituḥ ॥ ॥4-23-24॥
Translation
"O son, offer salutations to your father, the King, who bestowed honor upon you." Thus spoken to, Angada rose up and grasped his father's feet.
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे पुत्र! अपने मानदाता (सम्मान देने वाले) पिता और राजा को प्रणाम करो।" ऐसा कहे जाने पर, अंगद ने उठकर अपने पिता के दोनों चरणों को पकड़ लिया।
English Commentary
This verse underscores the deep-rooted Vedic tradition of filial piety (Pitru Bhakti). Even in the chaos of the battlefield and the throes of grief, the protocol of respect remains paramount. Tara instructs Angada to bow, not just to a father, but to the 'King' and the 'giver of honor' (mānadam). It reminds Angada that his status and identity were gifts from Vali. Angada’s action of grasping his father's feet is the ultimate gesture of submission and love. It serves as a final goodbye. The physical act of touching the feet of a dying parent grounds the high tragedy in a tangible, relatable human action, emphasizing the severance of the bond between protector and protégé.

यहाँ भारतीय संस्कृति के संस्कारों का मार्मिक प्रदर्शन है। मृत्युशय्या पर पड़े पिता के प्रति भी सम्मान और शिष्टाचार में कोई कमी नहीं आनी चाहिए। तारा अंगद को आदेश देती है कि वह अपने पिता के चरण स्पर्श करे। 'मानदम्' शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है, जिसका अर्थ है 'मान देने वाला'। वाली ने अंगद को युवराज का मान और स्नेह दिया था, इसलिए अंतिम विदाई में कृतज्ञता व्यक्त करना अनिवार्य है। अंगद का पिता के चरण पकड़ना ('जग्राह चरणौ') एक अत्यंत भावुक क्षण है। यह स्पर्श पुत्र का पिता से अंतिम शारीरिक संपर्क है। यह दृश्य दर्शकों और पाठकों की आँखों में आंसू लाने में सक्षम है, क्योंकि एक शक्तिशाली पिता अब अपने पुत्र के स्पर्श का उत्तर देने में असमर्थ है।
