Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
मम च इमा गिरः श्रुत्वा किम् त्वम् न प्रतिबुध्यसे ।
इदम् तत् वीर शयनम् तत्र शेषे हतो युधि ॥ ॥४-२३-६॥
Mama ca imā giraḥ śrutvā kim tvam na pratibudhyase । Idam tat vīra śayanam tatra śeṣe hato yudhi ॥ ॥4-23-6॥
Translation
Hearing these words of mine, why do you not wake up? This is that "Hero's Bed" where you lie, having been slain in battle.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मेरे इन वचनों को सुनकर भी आप क्यों नहीं जाग रहे हैं? युद्ध में मारे जाने पर यह वही 'वीर-शय्या' है जिस पर आप सोए हुए हैं।
English Commentary
Tara moves from questioning to realization. She asks why he doesn't wake up upon hearing her voice, a voice he likely never ignored before. Then she acknowledges the concept of "Vira shayanam" (the bed of heroes). In martial tradition, dying in battle lays the warrior on a glorious, metaphorical bed of honor (the battlefield itself). The commentary notes the dual meaning: physically, he is on the dirt, but spiritually, he is resting in the highest state of a warrior. It marks the transition from denial to the acknowledgment of his death in battle ("Hato yudhi").

तारा को अंततः वास्तविकता का भान होता है। वह पूछती हैं "क्यों नहीं जागते?", फिर स्वयं उत्तर देती हैं कि यह साधारण नींद नहीं है। यह 'वीर शयनम्' (वीरों की शय्या) है। क्षत्रिय धर्म और युद्ध नीति में, रणभूमि में मृत्यु को मोक्ष और स्वर्ग देने वाला माना गया है, और धरती ही उनकी शय्या होती है। तारा इस कठोर सत्य को स्वीकार करती हैं कि वाली अब एक ऐसी नींद में हैं जहाँ से लौटना संभव नहीं है। यहाँ उनके स्वर में शिकायत की जगह एक दार्शनिक स्वीकृति आने लगती है।
