महा बलानाम् हरि यूथपानाम् इदम् कुलम् राघव मन् निमित्तम् ।
अस्य अंगदस्य अपि च शोक तापात् अर्थ स्थित प्राणम् इतीव मन्ये ॥ ॥४-२४-१९॥
mahā balānām hari yūthapānām idam kulam rāghava man nimittam । asya aṅgadasya api ca śoka tāpāt artha sthita prāṇam itīva manye ॥ ॥4-24-19॥
Translation
"O Raghava, this lineage of mighty monkey leaders is [ruined] because of me. I think that due to grief and anguish, even Angada's life is only half-remaining."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे राघव! महाबली वानर यूथपतियों का यह कुल मेरे कारण (नष्ट हो रहा है)। मुझे ऐसा लगता है कि अंगद के भी प्राण शोक और संताप के कारण आधे ही बचे हैं (अर्थ स्थित प्राणम्)।"
English Commentary
Sugriva expands the scope of the tragedy from himself to the entire Vanara dynasty. He believes he has doomed the lineage (kulam). Seeing Angada's condition, he diagnoses him as artha sthita prāṇam—literally "with life situated in half (the body)" or half-dead. This hyperbole expresses the severity of Angada's shock. Sugriva fears that his actions have not just killed a brother but have initiated a chain reaction that will wipe out the next generation, rendering the victory pointless as there will be no one left to inherit the kingdom.

सुग्रीव का ध्यान अब व्यक्तिगत पाप से हटकर अपने कुल (Lineage) के भविष्य पर जाता है। 'मन् निमित्तम्' (मेरे कारण)—वह पूरी जिम्मेदारी ले रहा है। उसे लगता है कि वाली की मृत्यु के साथ वानर राजकुल की रीढ़ टूट गई है। अंगद, जो भविष्य का राजा है, 'अर्थ स्थित प्राणम्' (जिसके प्राण आधे शरीर में ही अटके हों) जैसा हो गया है। सुग्रीव को डर है कि अंगद इस आघात को सहन नहीं कर पाएगा और मर जाएगा। यदि अंगद मर गया, तो वंश समाप्त हो जाएगा। यह एक राजा और चाचा की चिंता है जो अपनी महत्वाकांक्षा के मलबे के नीचे अपने परिवार को दबा हुआ देख रहा है।
