सुतः सुलभः सुजनः सुवश्यः कुतः तु पुत्रः सदृशः अंगदेन ।
न च अपि विद्येत स वीर देशो यस्मिन् भवेत् सोदर संनिकर्षः ॥ ॥४-२४-२०॥
sutaḥ sulabhaḥ sujanaḥ suvaśyaḥ kutaḥ tu putraḥ sadṛśaḥ aṅgadena । na ca api vidyeta sa vīra deśo yasmin bhavet sodara saṃnikarṣaḥ ॥ ॥4-24-20॥
Translation
"A son who is good and obedient might be easily found, but where can a son like Angada be found? And, O Hero, there is no country where the closeness of a uterine brother can be found."

"सदाचारी और आज्ञाकारी पुत्र मिल जाना सुलभ (आसान) हो सकता है, किन्तु अंगद के समान पुत्र कहाँ मिलेगा? और हे वीर! ऐसा कोई देश नहीं है जहाँ सगे भाई का सानिध्य (मिलन) प्राप्त हो सके।"
English Commentary
This verse echoes the sentiment famously expressed later by Rama himself during the war: that allies and kin can be found, but a brother is irreplaceable. Sugriva praises Angada as unique even among good sons. However, the core pathos lies in the second line: "There is no country where one can find a brother." This emphasizes the permanence of his loss. He can conquer lands (Desha), but no land produces a 'brother' as a crop. It highlights the futility of territorial conquest when the fundamental human bond of brotherhood has been severed to achieve it.

यह श्लोक रामायण के उस प्रसिद्ध विचार को प्रतिध्वनित करता है—'भाई दुर्लभ है'। सुग्रीव यहाँ दो बातें कह रहा है। एक, अंगद साधारण पुत्र नहीं है, वह अद्वितीय है, इसलिए उसका खोना अपूरणीय क्षति है। दो, भाई (सोदर) जैसा कोई संबंध दुनिया में कहीं नहीं मिलता। पत्नी और पुत्र तो फिर भी प्राप्त हो सकते हैं (जैसा कि राम ने लक्ष्मण के लिए विलाप करते समय कहा था), लेकिन एक ही गर्भ से जन्मा भाई दोबारा नहीं मिल सकता। 'देशो न विद्येत'—सुग्रीव भौगोलिक रूप से नहीं, बल्कि भावनात्मक रूप से कह रहा है कि दुनिया के किसी भी कोने में भाई का विकल्प मौजूद नहीं है।
