अद्य अंगदो वीर वरो न जीवेत् जीवेत माता परि पालनार्थम् ।
विना तु पुत्रम् परिताप दीना सा नैव जीवेत् इत् निश्चितम् मे ॥ ॥४-२४-२१॥
adya aṅgado vīra varo na jīvet jīveta mātā pari pālanārtham । vinā tu putram paritāpa dīnā sā naiva jīvet it niścitam me ॥ ॥4-24-21॥
Translation
"Today, Angada, the best of heroes, might not survive. Even if he lives, it would be only to care for his mother. But without her son, wretched with grief, she (Tara) will certainly not survive; of this I am certain."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"आज वीरवर अंगद जीवित नहीं बचेगा। यदि वह जीता भी है, तो केवल अपनी माता (तारा) के पालन-पोषण के लिए। किन्तु (यदि अंगद मर गया तो) पुत्र के बिना, संताप से दीन हुई वह (तारा) निश्चित रूप से जीवित नहीं रहेगी, यह मुझे पक्का विश्वास है।"
English Commentary
Sugriva predicts a cascade of tragedy. He analyzes the precarious survival of his remaining family. Angada is the lynchpin; if he succumbs to grief, Tara will follow. Sugriva realizes that Tara’s will to live is tethered solely to her son. By contemplating this, Sugriva sees himself not just as the killer of Vali, but potentially as the annihilator of his entire extended family. This foreshadowing justifies his drastic decision in the next verse—he feels he must remove himself from the equation to perhaps break this cycle of grief.
हिंदी टीका
सुग्रीव यहाँ एक विनाशकारी श्रृंखला (domino effect) की कल्पना कर रहा है। वाली की मृत्यु -> अंगद की संभावित मृत्यु (शोक से) -> तारा की निश्चित मृत्यु। सुग्रीव जानता है कि तारा का जीवन अब केवल अंगद पर टिका है। यदि अंगद को कुछ हुआ, तो तारा भी प्राण त्याग देगी। यह विचार सुग्रीव को और अधिक दोषी महसूस कराता है—कि वह केवल भाई का हत्यारा नहीं, बल्कि अपने भतीजे और भाभी का भी हत्यारा बनने वाला है। 'निश्चितम् मे' (यह मेरा निश्चय है) दिखाता है कि वह तारा के मातृ-प्रेम की गहराई को अच्छी तरह जानता है।
