कृत्स्नम् तु ते सेत्स्यति कार्यम् एतत् मयि अपि अतीते मनुजेन्द्र पुत्र ।
कुलस्य हन्तारम् अजीवन अर्हम् राम अनुजानीहि कृत अगसम् माम् ॥ ॥४-२४-२३॥
kṛtsnam tu te setsyati kāryam etat mayi api atīte manujendra putra । kulasya hantāram ajīvana arham rāma anujānīhi kṛta agasam mām ॥ ॥4-24-23॥
Translation
"O son of a king, even when I am gone, this entire task of yours will be accomplished. O Rama, please permit me, the destroyer of my family, the sinner who is unfit to live, [to die]."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे नरेन्द्र पुत्र राम! मेरे न रहने पर (मर जाने पर) भी आपका यह पूरा कार्य सिद्ध हो जाएगा। मैं कुल का नाशक हूँ, जीने के योग्य नहीं हूँ और अपराधी हूँ; अतः मुझे (प्राण त्यागने की) अनुमति दीजिये।"
English Commentary
Sugriva formally asks Rama for permission to die. This reflects the protocol of their alliance and Sugriva's submission to Rama's authority. He reiterates that he is 'unfit to live' (ajīvana arham) because he is a 'destroyer of his kin'. By saying "Your task will be accomplished even when I am past," he tries to absolve Rama of the pragmatic need to keep him alive. It is a plea for release from the torment of his conscience. He frames his death not as an escape, but as a necessary act of justice for his crime.

सुग्रीव राम से औपचारिक अनुमति ('अनुजानीहि') मांग रहा है। वह राम को 'मनुजेन्द्र पुत्र' संबोधित करता है। सुग्रीव स्वयं को तीन विशेषण देता है: 'कुलस्य हन्तारम्' (कुल का नाशक), 'अजीवन अर्हम्' (जो जीने लायक नहीं है), और 'कृत अगसम्' (जिसने पाप/अग किया है)। यह पूर्ण समर्पण और आत्म-स्वीकृति है। सुग्रीव राम पर बोझ नहीं बनना चाहता। वह यह सुनिश्चित करना चाहता है कि राम को यह न लगे कि सुग्रीव के बिना सीता की खोज नहीं हो सकती। यह एक अत्यंत भावुक क्षण है जहाँ एक मित्र दूसरे मित्र से मृत्यु का उपहार मांग रहा है।
