यत् च अपि मन्येत भवान् महात्मा स्त्री घात दोषः तु भवेन् न मह्यम् ।
आत्मा इयम् अस्य इति हि माम् जहि त्वम् न स्त्री वधः स्यात् मनुजेन्द्र पुत्र ॥४-२४-३७॥
Yat ca api manyeta bhavān mahātmā strī ghāta doṣaḥ tu bhaven na mahyam । Ātmā iyam asya iti hi mām jahi tvam na strī vadhaḥ syāt manujendra putra ॥ ॥4-24-37॥
Translation
And if, O Great Soul, you think that killing a woman is a sin, that sin will not apply in my case. Considering that "This (woman) is his (Vali's) very soul," kill me, O Prince; it shall not be reckoned as the killing of a woman.
हिंदी अनुवाद
और यदि आप, हे महात्मा! यह मानते हैं कि "स्त्री वध एक दोष (पाप) है", तो मेरे विषय में यह दोष नहीं लगेगा। (क्योंकि) मैं इस (वाली) की आत्मा ही हूँ, अतः हे नृपकुमार! मुझे मार डालिए, यह स्त्री वध नहीं होगा।
English Commentary
Tara anticipates Rama’s hesitation. She knows that as a Dharmic warrior (Mahatma), strictly following the code of conduct, Rama would consider killing a woman (strī ghāta) a heinous sin. To counter this, she employs a metaphysical argument based on the Vedic concept of marriage, where the wife is the Ardhangini (half-body) or the very soul (Atma) of the husband. She argues: "I am his soul." Therefore, killing her is not a separate act of female regicide, but essentially completing the act of killing Vali. She offers him a loophole in the moral code to grant her wish, addressing him as 'Manujendra putra' (Son of the King of Men) to remind him of his sovereignty over such moral judgments.

तारा यहाँ धर्मशास्त्र का एक अत्यंत सूक्ष्म तर्क प्रस्तुत करती है। वह जानती है कि राम 'धर्मज्ञ' हैं और स्त्री-वध नहीं करेंगे। इसलिए वह इस बाधा को दूर करने के लिए 'अर्धांगिनी' के सिद्धांत का उपयोग करती है। वैदिक परंपरा में पत्नी को पति की आत्मा या आधा शरीर माना जाता है। तारा कहती है: "आपने वाली (शरीर) को मार दिया, लेकिन मैं उनकी आत्मा हूँ। जब तक मैं जीवित हूँ, वाली पूर्ण रूप से नहीं मरे हैं/मुक्त हुए हैं।" अतः उसे मारना स्त्री-हत्या नहीं, बल्कि वाली के वध को पूर्णता प्रदान करना है। वह राम को 'महात्मा' और 'मनुजेन्द्र पुत्र' कहकर उनके धर्म-संकट को हल कर रही है।
