आर्ताम् अनाथाम् अपनीयमानाम् एवम् गताम् न अर्हसि माम् अहन्तुम् ।
अहम् हि मातंग विलास गामिना प्लवंगमानाम् ऋषभेण धीमता ।
विना वरार्होत्तम हेम मालिना चिरम् न शक्ष्यामि नरेन्द्र जीवितुम् ॥४-२४-४०॥
Ārtām anāthām apanīyamānām evam gatām na arhasi mām ahantum । Aham hi mātanga vilāsa gāminā plavangamānām ṛṣabheṇa dhīmatā । Vinā varārhottama hema mālinā ciram na śakṣyāmi narendra jīvitum ॥ ॥4-24-40॥
Translation
I am distressed, orphaned (without a protector), and being dragged away; in this state, you ought not leave me unkilled. O King of Men! Indeed, without Vali—who walked with the grace of an elephant, who was the bull (best) among monkeys, wise, and wore the best golden garland—I will not be able to live for long.

मैं दुखी हूँ, अनाथ हो गई हूँ और (वानरों द्वारा) यहां से हटाई जा रही हूँ। ऐसी दशा को प्राप्त हुई मुझे आपको जीवित नहीं छोड़ना चाहिए (अर्थात् मार डालना चाहिए)। हे नरेन्द्र! मैं मतवाले हाथी की चाल वाले, वानरों में श्रेष्ठ, बुद्धिमान और उत्तम स्वर्ण-माला धारण करने वाले वाली के बिना अधिक समय तक जीवित नहीं रह सकूंगी।
English Commentary
Tara's plea reaches a crescendo here. The phrase na arhasi mām ahantum is a powerful double negative: "You ought not not kill me," effectively demanding death as a right. She describes herself as anāthām (husbandless/helpless), emphasizing that without Vali, her identity is shattered. Her eulogy for Vali continues even as she asks for death—recalling his majestic elephant-like gait and his wisdom (dhīmatā). It highlights the void left by his death. By stating she cannot live "for long" (ciram) without him, she implies that she will die of grief anyway, so Rama might as well expedite the process and grant her the mercy of immediate reunion.
