क्रोधाद् अमर्षाद् अतिविप्रधर्षाद् भ्रातुर् वधो मे अनुमतः पुरस्तात् ।
हते तु इदानीम् हरि यूधपे अस्मिन् सुतीक्ष्णम् इक्ष्वाकु वर प्रतप्स्ये ॥ ॥४-२४-६॥
krodhād amarṣād ativipradharṣād bhrātur vadho me anumataḥ purastāt । hate tu idānīm hari yūdhape asmin sutīkṣṇam ikṣvāku vara pratapsye ॥ ॥4-24-6॥
Translation
"Out of anger, intolerance, and extreme humiliation, I previously consented to the killing of my brother. But now that the leader of the monkeys is slain, O best of the Ikshvakus, I am burning with intense remorse."

"हे इक्ष्वाकु वंश के श्रेष्ठ राम! पहले तो क्रोध, अमर्ष (असहनशीलता) और अत्यधिक तिरस्कार के कारण मैंने भाई के वध का अनुमोदन किया था। किन्तु अब, वानर यूथपति (वाली) के मारे जाने पर मैं अत्यंत तीखे पश्चाताप से जल रहा हूँ।"
English Commentary
Sugriva offers a candid psychoanalysis of his earlier motives. He admits that his consent for the assassination was driven by raw, reactive emotions: krodha (anger), amarṣa (indignation/jealousy), and the sting of vipradharṣa (humiliation/insult regarding his wife). At that time, blinded by these feelings, the death of Vali seemed necessary. However, now that the deed is done, the reality of the loss outweighs the memory of the insult. The verb pratapsye (I am scorching/burning) indicates a visceral, consuming guilt. He realizes that vindication has come at the cost of his conscience.

सुग्रीव यहाँ अपनी मनोवैज्ञानिक स्थिति का विश्लेषण करता है। वह स्वीकार करता है कि उसने भाई की हत्या की सहमति क्यों दी थी—इसके तीन कारण थे: 'क्रोध', 'अमर्ष' (जलन/असहनशीलता), और 'अतिविप्रधर्षाद्' (घोर अपमान/पत्नी का हरण)। उस समय आवेश में निर्णय लिया गया था। लेकिन अब जब परिणाम सामने है ('हते तु इदानीम्'), तो वह आवेश शांत हो गया है और केवल ग्लानि शेष है। 'प्रतप्स्ये' (मैं जल रहा हूँ) शब्द का प्रयोग दिखाता है कि पश्चाताप की अग्नि उसे अंदर ही अंदर दग्ध कर रही है। यह श्लोक यह शिक्षा देता है कि क्रोध में लिए गए निर्णय अक्सर बाद में दुख का कारण बनते हैं।
