कुरु त्वम् अस्य सुग्रीव प्रेत कार्यम् अनंतरम् ।
तारा अंगदाभ्याम् सहितो वालिनो दहनम् प्रति ॥४-२५-१३॥
kuru tvam asya sugrīva preta kāryam anantaram |
tārā aṅgadābhyām sahito vālino dahanam prati ॥4-25-13॥
Translation
O Sugriva, immediately perform the funeral rites (Preta-karyam) for Vali, specifically the cremation, accompanied by Tara and Angada.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे सुग्रीव! तुम तारा और अंगद के साथ मिलकर, इसके ठीक बाद वाली के दाह संस्कार (दहन) हेतु आवश्यक प्रेत-कर्म (अंत्येष्टि क्रिया) संपन्न करो।
English Commentary
Lakshmana assumes the role of a pragmatic director here. In the throes of grief, duty is often forgotten, so he prompts Sugriva to act. Despite the enmity between the brothers, Sugriva, as the younger brother, is the rightful person to perform the last rites according to scripture. The instruction to include Tara and Angada is politically and socially significant. By performing the rites together, Sugriva publicly acknowledges his role as the new guardian of Vali's family, initiating the healing process and signaling the reunification of the royal household.

लक्ष्मण यहाँ व्यावहारिक कमान संभालते हैं। शोक की अवस्था में कर्तव्य विस्मृत हो सकता है, इसलिए वे सुग्रीव को निर्देशित कर रहे हैं। यद्यपि सुग्रीव और वाली के बीच शत्रुता थी, किन्तु मृत्यु के पश्चात सुग्रीव ही अनुज होने के नाते अन्त्येष्टि का अधिकारी है। 'तारा अंगदाभ्याम् सहितो' का विशेष महत्व है—लक्ष्मण चाहते हैं कि सुग्रीव, मृतक की पत्नी (तारा) और पुत्र (अंगद) को साथ लेकर यह कार्य करें। यह पारिवारिक एकता की पुनः स्थापना और सुग्रीव द्वारा अंगद और तारा के संरक्षण को स्वीकार करने का प्रथम संकेत है।
