Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अचिताम् चित्र पत्तीभिः सुनिविष्टाम् समंततः ।
विमानम् इव सिद्धानाम् जाल वात आयान आयुताम् ॥४-२५-२३॥
acitām citra pattībhiḥ suniviṣṭām samantataḥ |
vimānam iva siddhānām jāla vāta āyāna āyutām ॥4-25-23॥
Translation
It was covered on all sides with painted figures of foot soldiers and was well-constructed. It looked like the aerial car (Vimana) of the Siddhas and was furnished with latticed windows for ventilation.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह चारों ओर से चित्र-विचित्र पैदल सैनिकों (की आकृतियों) से व्याप्त थी, और अच्छी तरह बनी हुई थी। वह सिद्धों के विमान जैसी लगती थी और उसमें जालियाँ तथा (हवा आने के लिए) झरोखे बने हुए थे।
English Commentary
The palanquin is compared to a 'Vimana' (aerial celestial vehicle) of the Siddhas, elevating its status to something unearthly and sublime. The decoration featuring foot soldiers ('citra pattibhih') memorializes Vali's martial reign. The mention of lattice windows for ventilation ('jala vata ayana') indicates advanced carpentry and design. It implies that this vehicle was likely a royal conveyance used in life, now repurposed for the final journey, or explicitly crafted to resemble a celestial abode.
