Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रहृष्टम् इह ते वक्त्रम् गत असोः अपि मानद ।
अस्त अर्क सम वर्णम् च दृश्यते जीवतो यथा ॥ ॥४-२५-४२॥
Prahṛṣṭam iha te vaktram gata asoḥ api mānada । Asta arka sama varṇam ca dṛśyate jīvato yathā ॥ ॥4-25-42॥
Translation
"O bestower of honor, your face appears cheerful even though life has departed. Radiating like the setting sun, it looks as if you are still alive."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे मानद! प्राण निकल जाने पर भी यहाँ आपका मुख प्रहृष्ट (प्रसन्न) दिखाई दे रहा है। यह अस्ताचलगामी सूर्य के समान तेजस्वी और जीवित जैसा ही प्रतीत हो रहा है।"
English Commentary
This verse reinforces the concept of a warrior's death (Veeragati). Tara observes that Vali's face does not look ghastly but rather "cheerful" and radiant. The simile of the "setting sun" is powerful; just as the sun retains its brilliance even as it sinks, Vali retains his majestic aura in death. It suggests he died without fear or regret, maintaining his royal dignity to the very end.

यह श्लोक 'वीरगति' की अवधारणा को पुष्ट करता है। युद्ध में मारे गए वीर का चेहरा कांतिहीन नहीं होता, बल्कि संतुष्ट और तेजस्वी दिखता है। तारा वाली के चेहरे की तुलना 'अस्त होते सूर्य' से करती है—जो डूबते समय भी लालिमा और तेज से भरा होता है। यह उपमा यह भी संकेत देती है कि जैसे सूर्य पुनः उगता है, वैसे ही वाली की कीर्ति बनी रहेगी। मृत्यु के बाद भी वाली का सौंदर्य और तेज बना हुआ है।
