Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ततः ते सहिताः तत्र हि सः अंगदम् स्थाप्य च अग्रतः ।
सुग्रीव तारा सहिताः सिषिचुः वानरा जलम् ॥ ॥४-२५-५२॥
Tataḥ te sahitāḥ tatra hi saḥ aṅgadam sthāpya ca agrataḥ । Sugrīva tārā sahitāḥ siṣicuḥ vānarā jalam ॥ ॥4-25-52॥
Translation
Then, all those Vanaras gathered there with Sugriva and Tara, placing Angada in front, and offered water libations.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वहाँ उन सभी वानरों ने सुग्रीव और तारा के साथ मिलकर, अंगद को आगे करके, (वाली को) जल अर्पित किया।
English Commentary
This verse illustrates the protocol of mourning. Angada is placed "in front" (agrataḥ), emphasizing his role as the primary heir and performer of rites, despite Sugriva's presence as the incoming king. The inclusion of Tara and the collective body of Vanaras offering water shows that the entire community participates in satisfying the soul of the departed. It is a moment of unity in grief before the politics of succession begins.

यह श्लोक सामाजिक और पारिवारिक पदानुक्रम को स्पष्ट करता है। यद्यपि सुग्रीव अब राजा बनने वाले हैं, लेकिन तर्पण कार्य में मृत राजा का पुत्र, अंगद, ही 'अग्रतः' (सबसे आगे) रहता है। तारा और अन्य वानर उनका अनुसरण करते हैं। यह सामूहिक शोक और विधि-विधान का पालन है। जल सिंचन (तर्पण) मृतक की आत्मा की तृप्ति के लिए किया जाता है।
