Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सुग्रीवेण एव दीनेन दीनो भूत्वा महाबलः ।
समान शोकः काकुत्स्थः प्रेत कार्याणि अकारयत् ॥ ॥४-२५-५३॥
Sugrīveṇa eva dīnena dīno bhūtvā mahābalaḥ । Samāna śokaḥ kākutsthaḥ preta kāryāṇi akārayat ॥ ॥4-25-53॥
Translation
Sharing the sorrow and becoming mournful along with the miserable Sugriva, the mighty Kakutstha (Rama) ensured the funeral rites were performed.
हिंदी अनुवाद
दीन हुए सुग्रीव के साथ स्वयं भी दीन (दुखी) होकर, महाबली काकुत्स्थ (राम) ने समान शोक अनुभव करते हुए प्रेत-कर्म (अंतिम संस्कार) संपन्न करवाए।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Rama's nobility and adherence to Dharma. Despite being the one who shot Vali, Rama does not stand aloof. He becomes "dina" (sad/mournful) in empathy with Sugriva. The term "samāna śokaḥ" (equal grief) suggests he genuinely shares their pain. By ensuring the "preta kāryāṇi" (funeral rites) are done, Rama validates Vali's status as a king and closes the chapter of hostility, embodying the principle that enmity ends with death.

यह राम के चरित्र की महानता को दर्शाता है। यद्यपि उन्होंने वाली का वध किया था, वे शत्रुता को मृत्यु के साथ ही समाप्त मानते हैं ('मरणान्तानि वैराणि')। राम न केवल एक दर्शक हैं, बल्कि वे 'समान शोकः' (समान दुःख वाले) हैं और संस्कार सुनिश्चित करवाते हैं। यह 'काकुत्स्थ' (इक्ष्वाकु वंशज) के रूप में उनके राजधर्म का पालन है—मित्र के दुख में शामिल होना और मृत राजा को उचित सम्मान दिलाना।
