Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न कालस्य अस्ति बंधुत्वम् न हेतुर् न पराक्रमः ।
न मित्र ज्ञाति संबन्धः कारणम् न आत्मनो वशः ॥४-२५-७॥
na kālasya asti baṃdhutvam na hetur na parākramaḥ |
na mitra jñāti saṃbandhaḥ kāraṇam na ātmano vaśaḥ ॥4-25-7॥
Translation
Time has no kinship, no logic (reason), nor does it respect valor. Neither friendship, nor kinsmen, nor connection, nor self-control can be a cause (to stop it).
हिंदी अनुवाद
काल का न कोई भाई-बंधु है, न (उसकी गति का) कोई तर्क या कारण है, और न ही उसके सामने किसी का पराक्रम चलता है। मित्र, ज्ञाति-संबंध, या आत्मबल भी काल को रोकने का कारण नहीं बन सकते।
English Commentary
Rama deconstructs the bargaining phase of grief. He asserts that Time is brutally impersonal. It does not care for relationships, logic, or immense strength. Vali’s legendary valor, which could churn oceans, was useless against the abstract power of Time. Rama is gently dismantling the 'what ifs' plaguing Tara and Angada. Nothing could have saved Vali because Time recognizes no alliances or influences. This establishes the absolute sovereignty of Kala over all worldly attributes, leveling the playing field between the strong and the weak.

श्रीराम यहाँ स्पष्ट करते हैं कि मृत्यु पूर्णतः निष्पक्ष और निर्दय है। वाली इंद्र का पुत्र था, महाबलशाली था, और उसका सुग्रीव से भाई का संबंध था—परंतु काल ने इन सब की उपेक्षा की। अक्सर शोक संतप्त लोग पूछते हैं "मेरे ही प्रियजन के साथ ऐसा क्यों हुआ?" श्रीराम उत्तर देते हैं कि काल किसी 'हेतु' (तर्क) से नहीं बंधा है। न तो मित्रता काम आती है, न शक्ति। यह श्लोक उस मोह का खंडन करता है जिसमें हम सोचते हैं कि हमारे प्रभाव या शक्ति से हम मृत्यु को दूर रख सकते हैं।
