अभ्यषिंचंत सुहृदः सहस्राक्षम् इव अमराः ।
तस्य पाण्डुरम् आजह्रुः छत्रम् हेम परिष्कृतम् ॥ ॥४-२६-२३॥
abhyaṣiṃcaṃta suhṛdaḥ sahasrākṣam iva amarāḥ । tasya pāṇḍuram ājahruḥ chatram hema pariṣkṛtam ॥ ॥4-26-23॥
Translation
Friends consecrated him just as the immortals consecrate the Thousand-eyed Indra. They brought for him a white umbrella decorated with gold.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जैसे देवता सहस्राक्ष (इन्द्र) का अभिषेक करते हैं, वैसे ही मित्रों ने सुग्रीव का अभिषेक किया। उन्होंने सुग्रीव के लिए स्वर्ण से अलंकृत एक श्वेत छत्र (छाता) प्रस्तुत किया।
English Commentary
The 'White Umbrella' (Shveta Chatra) is the ancient Indian insignia of paramount sovereignty. It symbolizes that the king shelters his people just as the umbrella shelters him. Comparing Sugriva's coronation to that of Indra ('Sahasrākṣa') by the gods elevates the status of the Vanara king to a celestial level. The use of friends ('suhṛdaḥ') to perform the anointing, rather than mere servants, highlights the intimate and loyal nature of Sugriva's inner circle. The gold-adorned umbrella signifies the wealth and prosperity of the kingdom he now commands.

राज्याभिषेक के समय 'श्वेत छत्र' (सफेद छाता) धारण करना सार्वभौम सत्ता का प्रतीक है। यह छत्र राजा को धूप और वर्षा से बचाने के साथ-साथ यह भी दर्शाता है कि राजा प्रजा का रक्षक है। सुग्रीव की तुलना 'सहस्राक्ष' (हजार आँखों वाले इन्द्र) से करना उनकी महिमा को बढ़ाता है, क्योंकि इन्द्र देवताओं के राजा हैं और सुग्रीव वानरों के। 'सुहृदः' (मित्रों) द्वारा अभिषेक करना यह बताता है कि यह सत्ता बलपूर्वक नहीं, बल्कि प्रेम और सहयोग से ग्रहण की गई है। स्वर्ण अलंकृत छत्र किष्किन्धा की समृद्धि का परिचायक है।
