Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दक्षिणस्याम् अपि दिशि स्थितम् श्वेतम् इव अंबरम् ।
कैलास शिखर प्रख्यम् नाना धातु विराजितम् ॥ ॥४-२७-१५॥
Dakṣiṇasyām api diśi sthitam śvetam iva ambaram । Kailāsa śikhara prakhyam nānā dhātu virājitam ॥ ॥4-27-15॥
Translation
Look also at the peak situated in the southern direction, which looks like a white cloud/sky, resembling the peak of Mount Kailasa, and is embellished with various minerals.
हिंदी अनुवाद
दक्षिण दिशा में स्थित उस शिखर को भी देखो जो श्वेत आकाश (बादल) के समान है, कैलास पर्वत के शिखर जैसा प्रतीत होता है और नाना प्रकार की धातुओं से सुशोभित है।
English Commentary
There is a beautiful contrast presented here. While the northern peak was described as dark like a cloud, the southern peak is described as white (śvetam), resembling the sacred Mount Kailasa. The phrase nānā dhātu virājitam indicates that the mountain is rich in various minerals (ores), which catch the light and add to its majestic appearance. Rama appreciates the diverse beauty of the landscape even in isolation.

यहाँ विरोधाभास अलंकार का सुंदर प्रयोग है। उत्तर का शिखर काला (मेघ समान) है, जबकि दक्षिण का शिखर श्वेत (कैलास समान) है। 'नाना धातु विराजितम्' से ज्ञात होता है कि उस पर्वत पर विभिन्न खनिजों (गेरू, अभ्रक आदि) की प्रचुरता है, जिससे वह चमक रहा है। श्रीराम वन की विभीषिका में भी उसके सौंदर्य और प्राकृतिक संपदा का दर्शन कर रहे हैं।
