Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पारिप्लव शतैः जुष्टा बर्हि क्रौन्च विनादिता ।
रमणीया नदी सौम्य मुनि संघ निषेविता ॥ ॥४-२७-२३॥
Pāriplava śataiḥ juṣṭā barhi kraunca vināditā । Ramaṇīyā nadī saumya muni saṅgha niṣevitā ॥ ॥4-27-23॥
Translation
O gentle one (Saumya)! Inhabited by hundreds of waterfowl, resonating with the calls of peacocks and Krauncha birds, this beautiful river is visited by groups of sages.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे सौम्य! सैकड़ों जल-पक्षियों (कारंडव आदि) से युक्त, मोरों और क्रौंच पक्षियों के नाद से गूँजती हुई यह रमणीय नदी मुनियों के समूहों द्वारा सेवित है।
English Commentary
Addressing Lakshmana as Saumya (gentle one), Rama combines the natural and spiritual aspects of the river. It is lively with waterfowl (pāriplava) and peacocks, but importantly, it is muni saṅgha niṣevitā (frequented by groups of sages). The presence of sages confirms that the area is peaceful and conducive to the ascetic lifestyle they have adopted.

श्रीराम लक्ष्मण को 'सौम्य' (सुशील/शांत स्वभाव वाले) कहकर संबोधित करते हैं। इस श्लोक में नदी की धार्मिक महत्ता बताई गई है। केवल पशु-पक्षी ही नहीं, अपितु 'मुनि संघ' (ऋषियों के समूह) भी इसका सेवन करते हैं, जिससे यह स्थान निवास के लिए सुरक्षित और पवित्र सिद्ध होता है।
