Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तम् शोचमानम् काकुत्स्थम् नित्यम् शोक परायणम् ।
तुल्य दुःखो अब्रवीद् भ्राता लक्ष्मणो अनुनयम् वचः ॥ ॥४-२७-३३॥
Tam śocamānam kākutstham nityam śoka parāyaṇam । Tulya duḥkho abravīd bhrātā lakṣmaṇo anunayam vacaḥ ॥ ॥4-27-33॥
Translation
To that Kakutstha (Rama), who was grieving and constantly given over to sorrow, his brother Lakshmana, who shared his pain equally, spoke these conciliatory words.
हिंदी अनुवाद
नित्य शोक में डूबे हुए और विलाप करते हुए उन ककुत्स्थवंशी (श्रीराम) से, समान दुःख वाले उनके भ्राता लक्ष्मण ने अनुनय (समझाने) भरे वचन कहे।
English Commentary
Lakshmana steps in as the pillar of support. Despite being tulya duḥkha (equal in sorrow)—sharing the pain of Sita's loss and seeing his brother suffer—he gathers the strength to console Rama. He speaks words of anunaya (courtesy/persuasion) to pull Rama out of his depression, showing that true strength lies in supporting others even when one is hurting oneself.

लक्ष्मण का चरित्र यहाँ एक आदर्श भाई और मित्र के रूप में उभरता है। यद्यपि वे 'तुल्य दुःखो' (समान दुःख वाले) हैं—उन्हें भी सीता के वियोग और राम के कष्ट का दुःख है—फिर भी वे स्वयं को संभालकर राम को सांत्वना देते हैं। यह लक्ष्मण के धैर्य और मानसिक बल का परिचायक है।
