समुन्मूलय शोकम् त्वम् व्यवसायम् स्थिरी कुरु ।
ततः सपरिवारम् तम् राक्षसम् हन्तुम् अर्हसि ॥ ॥४-२७-३७॥
Samunmūlaya śokam tvam vyavasāyam sthirī kuru । Tataḥ saparivāram tam rākṣasam hantum arhasi ॥ ॥4-27-37॥
Translation
Uproot this grief completely and stabilize your resolve. Then, you will be able to slay that demon (Ravana) along with his entire retinue.
हिंदी अनुवाद
आप अपने शोक को जड़ से उखाड़ फेंकिये और अपने निश्चय (उद्योग) को स्थिर कीजिये। तत्पश्चात आप उस राक्षस (रावण) को उसके परिवार सहित मारने में समर्थ होंगे।
English Commentary
Lakshmana acts as a spiritual and pragmatic counselor here. He urges Rama to 'uproot' (samunmūlaya) grief entirely, not just suppress it. The choice of words suggests that grief is like a weed that hinders the growth of action. By asking Rama to stabilize his resolve (vyavasāyam sthirī kuru), Lakshmana emphasizes that the destruction of a formidable enemy like Ravana requires unwavering focus and determination, which is impossible if one is consumed by sorrow.

लक्ष्मण यहाँ एक मनोवैज्ञानिक चिकित्सक की भांति श्रीराम को परामर्श दे रहे हैं। 'समुन्मूलय' (सम्यक प्रकार से जड़ से उखाड़ना) शब्द का प्रयोग महत्वपूर्ण है। लक्ष्मण जानते हैं कि जब तक मन में शोक का लेशमात्र भी रहेगा, तब तक पूर्ण एकाग्रता संभव नहीं है। 'व्यवसायम् स्थिरी कुरु' का अर्थ है कि लक्ष्य के प्रति संकल्प को अटल करना। रावण का वध साधारण कार्य नहीं है; उसके लिए पूर्ण मानसिक और शारीरिक बल की आवश्यकता है, जिसे केवल शोक-मुक्त मन ही धारण कर सकता है।
