Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विनीतम् भ्रातरम् भ्राता लक्ष्मणम् लक्ष्मि वर्धनम् ।
इयम् गिरि गुहा रम्या विशाला युक्त मारुता ॥ ॥४-२७-६॥
Vinītam bhrātaram bhrātā lakṣmaṇam lakṣmi vardhanam । Iyam giri guhā ramyā viśālā yukta mārutā ॥ ॥4-27-6॥
Translation
The brother (Rama) said to his humble brother Lakshmana, the enhancer of prosperity: "This mountain cave is delightful, spacious, and well-ventilated."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(राम ने) अपने विनम्र और शोभा को बढ़ाने वाले भाई लक्ष्मण से कहा—"हे लक्ष्मण! यह पर्वत की गुफा अत्यंत रमणीक, विशाल और हवादार (वायु के आवागमन से युक्त) है।"
English Commentary
Rama points out the habitable qualities of the cave to Lakshmana to reassure him. He describes the cave as ramyā (delightful), viśālā (spacious), and notably yukta mārutā (possessed of good airflow/ventilation). Ventilation is a crucial feature for a dwelling during the humid monsoon season to prevent dampness. Rama's affectionate address to Lakshmana as vinītam (humble) and lakṣmi vardhanam (increaser of prosperity) shows his deep appreciation for his brother's constant service. Even in a cave, Rama maintains a dignified outlook, finding the positive aspects of their austere reality.

श्री राम लक्ष्मण को गुफा के गुणों से परिचित करा रहे हैं ताकि लक्ष्मण को इस कठिन निवास में भी कुछ सुख की अनुभूति हो। लक्ष्मण के लिए 'विनीतम्' (विनम्र) और 'लक्ष्मी वर्धनम्' (शोभा/समृद्धि बढ़ाने वाले) विशेषणों का प्रयोग राम के स्नेह को दर्शाता है। राम कहते हैं कि गुफा 'युक्त मारुता' है, अर्थात उसमें वायु का प्रवाह अच्छा है, जो वर्षा ऋतु में उमस और सीलन से बचने के लिए आवश्यक है। राम का यह दृष्टिकोण दिखाता है कि वे कठिन परिस्थितियों में भी सकारात्मकता खोज लेते हैं और अपने छोटे भाई के मनोबल को बनाए रखने का प्रयास करते हैं।
