Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इमाः ता मन्मथवताम् हिताः प्रतिहता दिशः ।
अनुलिप्ता इव घनैः नष्ट ग्रह निशा कराः ॥ ॥४-२८-१३॥
Imāḥ tā manmathavatām hitāḥ pratihatā diśaḥ । Anuliptā iva ghanaiḥ naṣṭa graha niśā karāḥ ॥ ॥4-28-13॥
Translation
Those directions, which are usually favorable to lovers, are now obstructed. Being smeared, as it were, with clouds, the planets and the moon have vanished from sight.
हिंदी अनुवाद
प्रेमियों के लिए हितकारी वे दिशाएँ (अब बादलों से) ढक गई हैं। बादलों से पुती हुई सी (दिखने के कारण) इनमें ग्रह और चंद्रमा दिखाई नहीं दे रहे हैं।
English Commentary
Here, Lord Rama describes the overwhelming nature of the rainy season. He observes that the directions, which usually facilitate the meeting of lovers or provide guidance, are now obstructed by heavy clouds. The use of the word 'anuliptā' (smeared or coated) suggests that the sky has been painted over with darkness, hiding the guiding lights of the moon and planets. This external darkness mirrors the internal despair felt by Rama due to his separation from Sita, as the very directions that could lead him to her are now obscured.

यहाँ श्रीराम वर्षा ऋतु के प्रभाव का वर्णन कर रहे हैं। वे कहते हैं कि सामान्यतः जो दिशाएँ प्रेमियों के मिलन में सहायक होती हैं, वे अब बादलों के घने आवरण से ढक गई हैं। आकाश में ग्रह और नक्षत्रों का दर्शन दुर्लभ हो गया है। 'अनुलिप्ता' शब्द का प्रयोग अत्यंत चित्रात्मक है, मानो किसी ने आकाश को काले रंग (बादलों) से पोत दिया हो, जिससे प्रकाश के स्रोत छिप गए हैं। यह अंधकार श्रीराम के अंतर्मन में व्याप्त सीता जी के वियोग जनित अंधकार का भी प्रतीक है।
