क्वचित् प्रकाशम् क्वचिद् अप्रकाशम् नभः प्रकीर्णा अंबु धरम् विभाति ।
क्वचित् क्वचित् पर्वत संनिरुद्धम् रूपम् यथा शान्त महार्णवस्य ॥ ॥४-२८-१७॥
Kvacit prakāśam kvacid aprakāśam nabhaḥ prakīrṇā ambu dharam vibhāti । kvacit kvacit parvata samniruddham rūpam yathā śānta mahārṇavasya ॥ ॥4-28-17॥
Translation
Sometimes illuminated and sometimes dark, the sky, scattered with water-bearing clouds, looks resplendent. In places, it resembles the form of a calm ocean dammed by mountains.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कहीं प्रकाश से युक्त और कहीं अंधकारमय, बिखरे हुए बादलों वाला आकाश सुशोभित हो रहा है। कहीं-कहीं पर्वतों से रुके हुए शांत महासागर के समान इसका रूप दिखाई देता है।
English Commentary
A masterful simile is used here to describe the sky. The interplay of light and shadow caused by scattered clouds gives the sky a dynamic appearance. Rama compares the sky to a vast, calm ocean that has been dammed or obstructed by mountains. The grey, heavy clouds resemble the water, and the peaks blocking the horizon create the illusion of a contained sea above, emphasizing the grandeur and depth of the monsoon sky.

आकाश के दृश्य का अद्भुत उपमान यहाँ प्रस्तुत किया गया है। बादलों की आवाजाही से धूप और छाँव का खेल चल रहा है। श्रीराम आकाश की तुलना एक विशाल, शांत महासागर से करते हैं। जैसे समुद्र का जल पर्वतों द्वारा रोका जाता है, वैसे ही आकाश का विस्तार बादलों और शिखरों द्वारा बाधित और गंभीर प्रतीत होता है। यह उपमा प्रकृति की विशालता और गंभीरता को दर्शाती है।
