Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
मुक्ता समाभम् सलिलम् पतत् वै सुनिर्मलम् पत्र पुटेषु लग्नम् ।
हृष्टा विवर्ण च्छदना विहंगाः सुरेन्द्र दत्तम् तृषिताः पिबन्ति ॥ ॥४-२८-३५॥
Muktā samābham salilam patat vai sunirmalam patra puṭeṣu lagnam । hṛṣṭā vivarṇa cchadanā vihaṅgāḥ surendra duttam tṛṣitāḥ pibanti ॥ ॥4-28-35॥
Translation
The thirsty birds, their wings discolored by the rain, joyfully drink the falling water that is caught in the cups of leaves; this crystal-clear water, shining like pearls, seems to be a gift from Indra himself.
हिंदी अनुवाद
पत्तों के दोने (पुट) में रुके हुए, मोतियों के समान चमकते और अत्यंत निर्मल गिरते हुए जल को, प्यासे पक्षी (जिनके पंख बारिश में भीगकर रंग बदल चुके हैं) हर्षित होकर पी रहे हैं, मानो वह साक्षात् इन्द्र (सुरेन्द्र) द्वारा दिया गया हो।
English Commentary
A delicate scene of birds drinking rainwater accumulated in leaf cups ('patra puteshu'). The water is pristine and glistens like pearls ('mukta samabham'). Rama poetically calls this water a direct gift from Surendra (Indra, the god of rain). Despite their wings being sodden and discolored by the downpour, the birds are delighted to partake in this celestial offering.

यह श्लोक वर्षा के जल की पवित्रता और पक्षियों की कृतज्ञता को दर्शाता है। पत्तियों पर रुका पानी मोती जैसा दिखता है। 'सुरेन्द्र दत्तम्' (इन्द्र द्वारा दिया गया) कहना यह भाव लाता है कि यह जल साधारण नहीं, बल्कि देवराज का उपहार है। पक्षियों के पंख 'विवर्ण' (discolored) हो गए हैं क्योंकि वे भीग गए हैं, फिर भी वे प्रसन्न हैं।
