घनोपगूढं गगनं न तारा न भास्करो दर्शनमभ्युपैति।
नवैर्जलौघैर्धरणी वितृप्ता तमोविलिप्ता न दिशः प्रकाशाः॥ ॥४-२८-४७॥
Ghanopagūḍhaṃ gaganaṃ na tārā na bhāskaro darśanamabhyupaiti। Navairjalaughairdharaṇī vitṛptā tamoviliptā na diśaḥ prakāśāḥ॥ ॥4-28-47॥
Translation
The sky is embraced by dense clouds; neither the stars nor the sun come into view. The earth is fully satiated by the new torrents of water. Smothered in darkness, the cardinal directions are not discernible.
हिंदी अनुवाद
आकाश बादलों से ढका हुआ है, न तो तारे दिखाई देते हैं और न ही सूर्य नज़र आता है। पृथ्वी नए जल की बाढ़ से पूर्णतः तृप्त हो गई है। अन्धकार से लिप्त होने के कारण दिशाएं स्पष्ट नहीं हैं।
English Commentary
The atmosphere is heavy and somber. The dense clouds (ghana) act as a veil, hiding celestial navigation markers like the sun and stars. While the earth is satisfied (vitṛptā) quenching its summer thirst, the visual world is diminished. The phrase na diśaḥ prakāśāḥ (directions are not bright/clear) is literal regarding the gloom, but metaphorically touches upon Rama's predicament—a pause in action where the path forward (finding Sita) is currently obscured by the 'darkness' of the season.

यह श्लोक वर्षा ऋतु के कारण उत्पन्न अंधकार और अस्पष्टता का वर्णन करता है। सूर्य और तारों का छिपना यह बताता है कि समय का ज्ञान करना कठिन हो गया है। 'धरणी वितृप्ता' (पृथ्वी तृप्त है) - यह ग्रीष्म की प्यास बुझने का संकेत है। लेकिन साथ ही, दिशाओं का ज्ञान न होना (तमोविलिप्ता) राम की मानसिक स्थिति का भी सूचक हो सकता है, जहाँ सीता की खोज में अभी कोई स्पष्ट दिशा नहीं मिल पा रही है।
