शोकश्च मम विस्तीर्णो वर्षाश्च भृशदुर्गमाः।
रावणश्च महान् शत्रुरपारं प्रतिभाति मे॥ ॥४-२८-५९॥
Śokaśca mama vistīrṇo varṣāśca bhṛśadurgamāḥ। Rāvaṇaśca mahān śatrurapāraṃ pratibhāti me॥ ॥4-28-59॥
Translation
My grief is vast, the rains are extremely difficult to traverse, and Ravana is a mighty enemy; all this appears to me as shoreless (insurmountable).

मेरा शोक विशाल (विस्तीर्ण) है, वर्षा ऋतु अत्यंत दुर्गम (कठिन) है, और रावण एक महान (शक्तिशाली) शत्रु है; यह सब मुझे अपार (जिसका कोई किनारा न हो) प्रतीत हो रहा है।
English Commentary
Rama lists the trifecta of obstacles facing him. First, the internal struggle: vast grief (śokaḥ vistīrṇo). Second, the environmental struggle: impassable rains (varṣāśca bhṛśadurgamāḥ). Third, the external antagonist: a mighty enemy (Rāvaṇaśca mahān). He describes the combination of these three as apāram—shoreless or boundless. It conveys a feeling of being overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the task ahead.

राम अपने सामने खड़ी तीन बड़ी चुनौतियों का वर्णन करते हैं: 1. आंतरिक पीड़ा (शोक), 2. प्राकृतिक बाधा (वर्षा), और 3. बाहरी शत्रु (रावण)। 'अपारं' शब्द का अर्थ है जिसका कोई 'पार' या किनारा न हो, जैसे महासागर। राम को ऐसा लग रहा है कि वे मुसीबतों के ऐसे समुद्र में हैं जिसका कोई अंत दिखाई नहीं दे रहा। यह उनकी हताशा का क्षण है।
