Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
मित्राणाम् संग्रहः शेषः तत् भवान् कर्तुम् अर्हति ।
यो हि मित्रेषु कालज्ञः सततम् साधु वर्तते ॥ ॥४-२९-१०॥
Mitrāṇām saṃgrahaḥ śeṣaḥ tat bhavān kartum arhati |
Yo hi mitreṣu kālajñaḥ satatam sādhu vartate ॥4-29-10॥
Translation
"The accumulation of friends (maintaining alliances) is the only task remaining, and you ought to perform it. For he who, knowing the right time, always deals properly with his friends [succeeds]."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"(अब केवल) मित्रों का संग्रह (मित्रों को साथ रखना/प्रसन्न करना) शेष है, जिसे आपको करना चाहिए। क्योंकि जो (राजा) समय का ज्ञाता होकर मित्रों के साथ निरंतर अच्छा व्यवहार करता है (वही सफल होता है)।"
English Commentary
Hanuman pivots to statecraft (Rajneeti). Having secured territory and treasury, the remaining pillar of stability is Mitra-sangraha (accumulation/maintenance of allies). Hanuman posits that a king must be Kalajna—one who knows the significance of timing. The implication is that friendship is reciprocal; Rama has already performed his part of the alliance by killing Vali. Now, timing dictates that Sugriva must reciprocate. Ignoring an ally after one's own needs are met is not just ingratitude; it is political suicide, as a king's strength relies heavily on valid alliances.
हिंदी टीका
यहाँ हनुमान जी राजनीति के एक प्रमुख सिद्धांत 'मित्र-संग्रह' की ओर इशारा कर रहे हैं। राज्य मिल गया, धन मिल गया, अब शक्ति को बनाए रखने के लिए शक्तिशाली मित्रों को सन्तुष्ट रखना आवश्यक है। हनुमान जी सुग्रीव को 'कालज्ञः' (समय को पहचानने वाला) बनने की सलाह दे रहे हैं। भाव यह है कि श्री राम ने अपना मित्र-धर्म निभा दिया है, अब सुग्रीव की बारी है। यदि इस समय सुग्रीव ने साधु व्यवहार नहीं किया, तो यह एक राजनीतिक और नैतिक भूल होगी। एक राजा की स्थिरता उसके मित्रों की निष्ठा पर निर्भर करती है।
