समृद्धार्थञ्च सुग्रीवं मन्दधर्मार्थसंग्रहम्।
अत्यर्थञ्चासतां मार्गमेकान्तगतमानसम्॥ ॥४-२९-२॥
Samṛddhārthañca sugrīvaṃ mandadharmārthasaṅgraham। Atyarthañcāsatāṃ mārgamekāntagatamānasam॥ ॥4-29-2॥
Translation
(Hanuman saw) Sugriva, who was prosperous in wealth but slow in accumulating merit (dharma) and purpose (artha); he was excessively following the path of the ignoble and his mind was focused on seclusion.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(हनुमान ने देखा कि) सुग्रीव के पास अर्थ (धन/साधन) समृद्ध है, लेकिन वे धर्म और अर्थ (कर्तव्य) के संग्रह में ढीले (मंद) पड़ गए हैं। वे अनुचित (असत) मार्ग पर बहुत अधिक बढ़ गए हैं और उनका मन एकांत (विलास) में लगा हुआ है।
English Commentary
Hanuman evaluates Sugriva critically. While Sugriva is materially successful (samṛddhārtha), he is neglecting the other pillars of life: dharma (duty/righteousness) and artha (political goals like the search for Sita). Hanuman notes that Sugriva is treading the 'path of the unworthy' (asatāṃ mārgam), meaning a life of pure hedonism, and seeking privacy (ekānta) to indulge, rather than holding court.

हनुमान जी, जो नीति-निपुण हैं, सुग्रीव की स्थिति का आकलन कर रहे हैं। सुग्रीव के पास 'समृद्ध अर्थ' (बाली का राज्य और कोष) तो है, लेकिन वे 'धर्म' (मित्र का कार्य) को भूल रहे हैं। 'असतां मार्गम्' (बुरे लोगों का रास्ता) का अर्थ यहाँ अत्यधिक काम-भोग और आलस्य है। एक राजा के लिए कर्तव्य भूलकर केवल भोग में लिप्त रहना 'असत मार्ग' है।
