Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कामम् खलु शरैः शक्तः सुर असुर महा उरगान् ।
वशे दाशरथिः कर्तुम् त्वत् प्रतिज्ञाम् अवेक्षते ॥ ॥४-२९-२२॥
Kāmam khalu śaraiḥ śaktaḥ sura asura mahā uragān |
Vaśe dāśarathiḥ kartum tvat pratijñām avekṣate ॥4-29-22॥
Translation
"Indeed, the son of Dasharatha is capable of subduing gods, demons, and great serpents with his arrows; yet, he waits for (the fulfillment of) your promise."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"निश्चय ही दशरथ-नंदन (राम) अपने बाणों से देवताओं, असुरों और बड़े-बड़े नागों को अपने वश में करने (हराने) में समर्थ हैं, (परंतु) वे केवल आपकी प्रतिज्ञा (वचन) की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं (उसका मान रख रहे हैं)।"
English Commentary
This verse clarifies the theological and martial standing of Rama. Hanuman asserts that Rama is Shakta (capable) of conquering the entire cosmos (Suras, Asuras, Uragas) single-handedly. He does not need the monkeys to defeat Ravana. Why then does he wait? He waits to honor Sugriva's Pratijna (pledge). If Rama acted alone, Sugriva would be proven a liar who failed to keep his word. Thus, Rama's patience is an act of grace, preserving Sugriva's integrity (Satya). This realization should humble Sugriva, knowing he is being done a favor, not doing one.

यह एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण श्लोक है जो राम की शक्ति और उनके चरित्र की मर्यादा को स्थापित करता है। हनुमान जी स्पष्ट करते हैं कि राम को सुग्रीव की 'मदद' की जरूरत नहीं है क्योंकि वे सर्वशक्तिमान हैं; वे तो देवताओं और असुरों को भी हरा सकते हैं। वे सुग्रीव का इंतज़ार इसलिए कर रहे हैं ताकि सुग्रीव का 'वचन' झूठा न हो जाए। राम सत्यवादी हैं और वे चाहते हैं कि उनके मित्र भी सत्यवादी बनें। सुग्रीव की सहायता लेना राम की मजबूरी नहीं, बल्कि सुग्रीव को दिया गया एक सम्मान और अवसर है।
