Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सचिवो अयम् कपीन्द्रस्य सुग्रीवस्य महात्मनः ।
तम् एव काङ्क्षमाणस्य मम अन्तिकम् इह आगतः ॥ ॥४-३-२६॥
Sacivo ayam kapīndrasya sugrīvasya mahātmanaḥ |
Tam eva kāṅkṣamāṇasya mama antikam iha āgataḥ ॥4-3-26॥
Translation
He is the minister of the high-souled King of Monkeys, Sugriva. He has arrived here near me, who was indeed searching for that very Sugriva.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यह महात्मा वानरराज सुग्रीव के सचिव (मंत्री) हैं। मैं जिस सुग्रीव को खोज रहा था, यह उन्हीं के पास से मेरे समीप आए हैं।
English Commentary
Rama acknowledges the serendipity of the moment. He was actively seeking (Kankshamanasya) Sugriva based on previous counsel, and now Sugriva’s representative has appeared before him. It validates his path. Rama refers to Sugriva as 'Kapindrasya' (Lord of Monkeys) and 'Mahatmanah' (Great Soul), reciprocating the respect shown by Hanuman. This mutual admiration sets a solid foundation for the alliance. Rama realizes that his quest to find Sita has just taken a decisive turn forward.
हिंदी टीका
श्रीराम यहाँ नियति (Destiny) के खेल को स्वीकार करते हैं। कबंध (राक्षस) ने श्रीराम को सलाह दी थी कि वे सुग्रीव से मित्रता करें। राम सुग्रीव को खोज ही रहे थे (काङ्क्षमाणस्य) कि सुग्रीव का मंत्री स्वयं उनके पास आ गया। इसे 'काकतालीय न्याय' (संयोग) कहा जा सकता है, लेकिन राम इसे दैवीय संकेत मानते हैं। राम ने भी सुग्रीव के लिए 'महात्मनः' शब्द का प्रयोग किया, जो दर्शाता है कि वे मित्रता के लिए सम्मान देने को तैयार हैं। यह श्लोक दोनों पक्षों की आपसी आवश्यकता (Mutual need) को स्थापित करता है।
