न अन् ऋग्वेद विनीतस्य न अ--यजुर्वेद धारिणः ।
न अ--साम वेद विदुषः शक्यम् एवम् विभाषितुम् ॥ ॥४-३-२८॥
Na an ṛgveda vinītasya na a--yajurveda dhāriṇaḥ |
Na a--sāma veda viduṣaḥ śakyam evam vibhāṣitum ॥4-3-28॥
Translation
One who is not well-versed in the Rig Veda, who has not memorized the Yajur Veda, and who has no knowledge of the Sama Veda, cannot speak in this manner.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिसने ऋग्वेद का विनयपूर्वक अध्ययन न किया हो, जिसने यजुर्वेद का धारण (अभ्यास) न किया हो और जो सामवेद का विद्वान न हो, वह इस प्रकार (ऐसी सुंदर भाषा) नहीं बोल सकता।
English Commentary
This is one of the most famous tributes to Hanuman’s intellect. Rama acts as an examiner here. He deduces that Hanuman must be a master of the three Vedas (Rig, Yajur, Sama) simply by analyzing his diction and syntax. The negation structure ('Na an...' - Not one who has not...) emphasizes the impossibility of such speech without deep scriptural grounding. It elevates Hanuman from a 'monkey warrior' to a 'Vedic Scholar' instantly. Rama recognizes that he is dealing with a highly cultured individual.

यह श्लोक और अगले कुछ श्लोक साहित्य और व्याकरण के इतिहास में अत्यंत प्रसिद्ध हैं। श्रीराम हनुमान जी की विद्वता का 'प्रमाण-पत्र' (Certificate) दे रहे हैं। वे कहते हैं कि हनुमान की भाषा में तीनों वेदों का सार है। ऋग्वेद से विनय/ज्ञान, यजुर्वेद से कर्मकांड/उच्चारण की शुद्धता, और सामवेद से लयात्मकता/संगीत। केवल एक 'त्रि-वेद ज्ञाता' ही इतना निर्दोष और प्रभावशाली बोल सकता है। श्रीराम, जो स्वयं 'वेदज्ञ' हैं, ने हनुमान के शब्दों के चयन और ध्वनि मात्र से उनकी शिक्षा के स्तर को पहचान लिया।
