Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अबभाषे च तौ वीरौ यथावत् प्रशशंस च ।
संपूज्य विधिवद् वीरौ हनुमान् वानरोत्तमः ॥ ॥४-३-४॥
Ababhāṣe ca tau vīrau yathāvat praśaśaṃsa ca । Saṃpūjya vidhivad vīrau hanumān vānarottamaḥ ॥ ॥4-3-4॥
Translation
The best of monkeys (Hanuman) addressed those two heroes, praising them duly and honoring them in accordance with proper scriptural codes.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वानरों में श्रेष्ठ हनुमान ने उन दोनों वीरों से वार्तालाप किया और विधि-विधान के अनुसार उनकी पूजा (सम्मान) करके यथायोग्य उनकी प्रशंसा की।
English Commentary
Hanuman observes the protocols of engagement strictly. Vidhivad (according to rule/method) suggests that he treated them with the respect due to ascetics or kings, acknowledging their status immediately. He offered them praise (Prashashamsa) that was Yathavat (appropriate/accurate), not exaggerated flattery. This balance—honoring them without seeming servile, and praising them without seeming manipulative—is the hallmark of Vanarottamah (the best of monkeys). He establishes a rapport based on mutual respect and cultural adherence before asking probing questions.

किसी अजनबी से मिलते समय, विशेषकर जब वे राजसी प्रतीत हो रहे हों, शिष्टाचार का पालन आवश्यक है। हनुमान जी ने 'विधिवत्' (शास्त्रों के विधि अनुसार) उनका सत्कार किया। इसमें कुशलक्षेम पूछना और उनके व्यक्तित्व के अनुकूल प्रशंसा करना शामिल है। 'यथावत् प्रशशंस' का अर्थ है कि उन्होंने झूठी चापलूसी नहीं की, बल्कि जो गुण (तेज, बल) प्रत्यक्ष दिख रहे थे, उनका सत्य वर्णन किया। यह सत्य पर आधारित प्रशंसा विश्वास पैदा करती है। हनुमान जी यहाँ एक श्रेष्ठ दरबारी और विद्वान की भूमिका निभा रहे हैं।
