Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पम्पा तीर रुहान् वृक्षान् वीक्षमाणौ समंततः ।
इमाम् नदीम् शुभ जलाम् शोभयन्तौ तरस्विनौ ॥ ॥४-३-७॥
Pampā tīra ruhān vṛkṣān vīkṣamāṇau samantataḥ । Imām nadīm śubha jalām śobhayantau tarasvinau ॥ ॥4-3-7॥
Translation
"You are observing the trees growing on the banks of Pampa from all sides. O energetic ones! You are beautifying this river of auspicious waters (by your presence)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"आप पम्पा सरोवर के तट पर उगने वाले वृक्षों को चारों ओर से देख रहे हैं। हे तेजस्वी वीरों! आप अपनी उपस्थिति से इस पवित्र जल वाली नदी की शोभा बढ़ा रहे हैं।"
English Commentary
Hanuman continues his courteous engagement by observing their actions. They are looking at the trees, likely searching or admiring the scenery. Hanuman turns this into a poetic compliment: rather than the scenic Pampa river enhancing their beauty, he claims they are beautifying the river (Shobhayantau) with their presence. This flattery serves a dual purpose—it acts as an icebreaker and validates their noble status. Calling them Tarasvinau (energetic/mighty) acknowledges their physical capability even while they are simply standing and gazing at nature.

यह श्लोक हनुमान जी की काव्य-प्रतिभा को दर्शाता है। वे देखते हैं कि राम और लक्ष्मण प्रकृति को निहार रहे हैं (शायद सीता की खोज में या वियोग में)। हनुमान कहते हैं कि नदी आपको सुंदर नहीं बना रही, बल्कि आप नदी को सुंदर बना रहे हैं ('शोभयन्तौ')। यह 'व्यतिरेक' या 'प्रतीप' अलंकार जैसा है। 'तरस्विनौ' (वेगवान/बलवान) शब्द का प्रयोग करके वे फिर से उनकी शक्ति को रेखांकित करते हैं। यह वार्तालाप को सौहार्दपूर्ण बनाने का प्रयास है।
