जल गर्भा महा वेगाः कुटज अर्जुन गंधिनः ।
चरित्वा विरताः सौम्य वृष्टि वाताः समुद्यताः ॥ ॥४-३०-२४॥
Jala garbhā mahā vegāḥ kuṭaja arjuna gaṃdhinaḥ |
Caritvā viratāḥ saumya vṛṣṭi vātāḥ samudyatāḥ ॥4-30-24॥
Translation
O Gentle One, those rain-bearing winds of great speed, carrying the fragrance of Kutaja and Arjuna flowers, having blown (actively), have now ceased.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे सौम्य! जल को गर्भ में धारण करने वाले, महान वेग वाले, और कुटज तथा अर्जुन वृक्षों की सुगंध को वहन करने वाले वे वर्षाकालीन पवन, जो (पहले) बह रहे थे, अब शांत हो गए हैं।
English Commentary
Rama highlights the sensory details of the changing season. The monsoon winds were characterized by three things: they carried moisture (Jala garbha), they were high-speed (Maha vegah), and they bore the specific scents of the rainy season flora like Kutaja and Arjuna. Now, those winds have ceased (Viratah). The address Saumya (gentle/pleasant) to Lakshmana mirrors the pleasantness of the incoming season. This observation is practical for a warrior planning a campaign; the cessation of high winds and rain means the environment is now conducive for travel and warfare.
