काम वृत्तम् च सुग्रीवम् नष्टाम् च जनक आत्मजाम् ।
दृष्ट्वा कालम् अतीतम् च मुमोह परम आतुरः ॥ ॥४-३०-३॥
kāma vṛttam ca sugrīvam naṣṭām ca janaka ātmajām |
dṛṣṭvā kālam atītam ca mumoha parama āturaḥ ॥4-30-3॥
Translation
...seeing Sugriva devoted to pleasure, Janaka’s daughter lost, and the time passed, he became extremely distressed and fainted (became bewildered).

...सुग्रीव को काम-भोग में लिप्त देखकर, जनकनंदिनी सीता को खोया हुआ देखकर और (सीता की खोज का) समय बीतता हुआ देखकर, राम अत्यंत व्याकुल होकर मूर्छित (संज्ञा-शून्य) हो गए।
English Commentary
This verse brings together the three main causes of Rama's sorrow: 1) The indifference of an ally (Sugriva's indulgence in pleasure), 2) The loss of his wife (Sita), and 3) The delay in duty (passing of time). The combined effect of these three breaks even a man of patience like Rama, causing him to swoon ('mumoha'). 'Parama aturah' indicates the intensity of his distress. This represents the pinnacle of human emotion, bringing Rama's character close to human sensibilities despite his divinity.

यह श्लोक राम के दुःख के तीन प्रमुख कारणों को एक साथ लाता है: १) मित्र की उदासीनता (सुग्रीव का भोग में लिप्त होना), २) पत्नी का वियोग (सीता का खोना), और ३) कर्तव्य में विलंब (समय का बीतना)। इन तीनों का संयुक्त प्रभाव राम जैसे धैर्यवान पुरुष को भी तोड़ देता है, और वे 'मुमोह' (मोह/मूर्छा) को प्राप्त होते हैं। 'परम आतुरः' उनकी पीड़ा की तीव्रता को दर्शाता है। यह मानवीय भावनाओं की पराकाष्ठा है, जो राम के चरित्र को ईश्वरीय होते हुए भी मानवीय संवेदनाओं के निकट लाती है।
