दर्शयन्ति शरन्नद्यः पुलिनानि शनैः शनैः ।
नवसंगमसव्रीडा जघनानीव योषितः ॥४-३०-५७॥
darśayanti śarannadyaḥ pulināni śanaiḥ śanaiḥ |
navasaṃgamasavrīḍā jaghanānīva yoṣitaḥ ॥4-30-57॥
Translation
The autumn rivers are revealing their sandbanks slowly, just as shy women, during their first union, slowly reveal their hips/thighs out of bashfulness.
हिंदी अनुवाद
शरद ऋतु की नदियां धीरे-धीरे अपने रेतीले तटों (पुलिन) को वैसे ही दिखा रही हैं, जैसे नए संगम (पहली बार मिलन) के समय लज्जा से भरी हुई स्त्रियां अपने जघनों (hips/thighs) को संकोच के साथ अनावृत करती हैं।
English Commentary
This concluding verse of the 'seasonal description' is highly erotic and visual. The gradual receding of water revealing the sand is likened to the slipping of garments revealing limbs. The phrase navasaṃgamasavrīḍā (bashfulness in first union) highlights the poet's imaginative power. Rama, having lived a householder's life, understands the sanctity and intoxication of that bashfulness. Describing this to Lakshmana indicates that Rama views him not just as a younger brother, but as a mature confidant. This verse brings the description of autumn to a close at the peak of human emotional resonance.
