स कालं परिसंख्याय सीतायाः परिमार्गणे ।
कृतार्थः समयं कृत्वा दुर्मतिर्नावबुध्यते ॥४-३०-६८॥
sa kālaṃ parisaṃkhyāya sītāyāḥ parimārgaṇe |
kṛtārthaḥ samayaṃ kṛtvā durmatirnāvabudhyate ॥4-30-68॥
Translation
Having fixed the time for the search of Sita, that evil-minded one, his own purpose accomplished, now pays no heed to the agreement.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सीता की खोज के लिए समय (वर्षा ऋतु के बाद) निश्चित करके भी, वह दुर्मति (सुग्रीव), जिसका अपना प्रयोजन (राज्य प्राप्ति) सिद्ध हो चुका है, अब उस समय (प्रतिज्ञा) का ध्यान नहीं रख रहा है।
English Commentary
The word kṛtārthaḥ (one whose purpose is served) here indicates ingratitude. Sugriva regained his kingdom and wife with Rama's help, but now that it is his turn to reciprocate, he has become durmati (wicked-minded). Rama views the breaking of a promise as a grave sin. In politics, honoring the samaya (agreement/deadline) is paramount. Sugriva is deviating not just from the dharma of friendship, but also from royal duty and truth.

'कृतार्थः' (जिसका काम बन गया हो) शब्द यहाँ कृतघ्नता का सूचक है। सुग्रीव ने राम की मदद से राज्य और पत्नी पा ली, लेकिन जब राम का काम करने की बारी आई, तो वह 'दुर्मति' हो गया। राम यहाँ 'वचन भंग' को सबसे बड़ा पाप मान रहे हैं। राजनीति में 'समय' (Contract/Deadline) का महत्व सर्वोपरि है। सुग्रीव न केवल मित्रता धर्म, बल्कि राजधर्म और सत्य से भी विमुख हो रहा है।
