न स संकुचितः पंथा येन वाली हतो गतः ।
समये तिष्ठ सुग्रीव मा वालि पथम् अन्वगाः ॥ ॥४-३०-८०॥
na sa saṃkucitaḥ paṃthā yena vālī hato gataḥ । samaye tiṣṭha sugrīva mā vāli patham anvagāḥ ॥ ॥4-30-80॥
Translation
(Tell him—) The path by which the slain Vali departed is not yet closed. Abide by your agreement, Sugriva! Do not follow the path of Vali.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(उससे कहना—) जिस रास्ते से मारा गया वाली गया है, वह रास्ता अभी संकुचित (बंद) नहीं हुआ है। हे सुग्रीव! अपनी प्रतिज्ञा पर कायम रहो, वाली के पथ का अनुगमन मत करो।
English Commentary
This is iconic. It is perhaps the most chilling threat Rama issues in the entire epic. The metaphor "the path Vali took is not closed" (na sa sankucitah pantha) signifies that the portal to the afterlife (Yama's abode) remains open and accessible. It is a direct ultimatum: fulfill the samaya (covenant) or face the same fate as your brother. The phrase ma vali patham anvagah (do not follow Vali's path) is a terrifying reminder of the fratricide that just occurred, suggesting that Rama is prepared to kill another Monkey King if Dharma is violated again.
