सत्य संधौ महाभागौ भ्रातरौ राम लक्ष्मणौ ।
वयस्य भावम् संप्राप्तौ राज्य अर्हौ राज्य दायिनौ ॥ ॥४-३१-४५॥
satya saṃdhau mahābhāgau bhrātarau rāma lakṣmaṇau |
vayasya bhāvam saṃprāptau rājya arhau rājya dāyinau ॥4-31-45॥
Translation
(The ministers said) "Those two brothers, Rama and Lakshmana, bound to truth and of great fortune, who have entered into friendship (with you), who are worthy of the kingdom and who are the givers of your kingdom (have arrived)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(मंत्रियों ने कहा) "सत्यप्रतिज्ञ और महाभाग्यशाली दोनों भाई, राम और लक्ष्मण, जिन्होंने आपके साथ मित्रता प्राप्त की है, जो स्वयं राज्य के योग्य हैं और जिन्होंने आपको राज्य दिया है (वे आए हैं)।"
English Commentary
The ministers succinctly remind Sugriva of four critical attributes of the brothers: 1. Satya saṃdhau (Truth-bound) – implies they keep their word and expect Sugriva to keep his. 2. Vayasya bhāvam (Friendship) – appealing to the bond formed. 3. Rājya arhau (Worthy of kingship) – acknowledging their inherent power and legitimacy. 4. Rājya dāyinau (Givers of the kingdom) – the most crucial reminder. This implies that since they granted Sugriva the throne, they possess the power to revoke it. This is a subtle but stern warning to the King regarding his precarious position.
