त्वम् प्रमत्तो न जानीषे कालम् कलविदाम् वर ।
फुल्ल सप्त च्छद श्यामा प्रवृत्ता तु शरत् शिवा ॥४-३२-१३॥
Tvam pramatto na jānīṣe kālam kalavidām vara । Phulla sapta cchada śyāmā pravṛttā tu śarat śivā ॥ ॥4-32-13॥
Translation
O best among those who know time, being negligent, you do not realize the passage of time. The auspicious autumn season has arrived, dark and beautiful with blooming Saptaparna trees.

हे समय के जानकारों में श्रेष्ठ (सुग्रीव)! आप प्रमाद (भोग-विलास/लापरवाही) में पड़कर समय का भान नहीं रख पा रहे हैं। खिले हुए सप्तपर्ण वृक्षों से सुशोभित वह कल्याणकारी शरद ऋतु आ गई है।
English Commentary
Having comforted Sugriva, Hanuman now delivers the necessary corrective feedback. He accuses Sugriva of Pramada (negligence/intoxication with pleasure). Ironically addressing Sugriva as "best among those who know time," Hanuman points out the discrepancy between Sugriva's reputation and his current ignorance. Hanuman uses nature as the undeniable evidence of time's passage. The imagery of the Saptaparna trees (Alstonia scholaris) blooming serves as a biological clock. In ancient Indian statecraft, military campaigns, which were halted during the monsoon, were meant to resume in Autumn (Sharad). By ignoring these natural signs, Sugriva has violated the protocol of kingship. Hanuman validates the urgency of Lakshmana’s arrival by proving that the deadline for action—heralded by nature itself—has indeed arrived and is being ignored.

प्रशंसा और आश्वासन के बाद, अब हनुमान सीधे मुद्दे पर आते हैं और राजा की गलती बताते हैं। वे सुग्रीव को 'कालविदाम् वर' (समय को जानने वालों में श्रेष्ठ) कहते हैं, जो एक व्यंग्य भी हो सकता है और स्मरण भी—कि आप विद्वान हैं, फिर भी 'प्रमत्त' (लापरवाह) हैं। हनुमान प्रकृति का वर्णन एक घड़ी (Clock) की तरह करते हैं। प्राचीन काल में ऋतुओं से ही युद्ध और अभियानों का समय निर्धारित होता था। वर्षा ऋतु में युद्ध बंद होते थे और शरद ऋतु में आरम्भ। 'सप्तपर्ण' (सात पत्तों वाला वृक्ष) का खिलना शरद ऋतु के आगमन का स्पष्ट संकेत है। हनुमान कह रहे हैं कि प्रकृति अपना काम कर रही है, ऋतु बदल गई है, लेकिन आप अभी भी वर्षा ऋतु के आलस्य में ही जी रहे हैं। यह 'काल ज्ञान' का अभाव ही समस्या की जड़ है।
